Who is a Rheumatologist?

According to the American College of Rheumatology, a rheumatologist is an internist or pediatrician who received further training in the diagnosis (detection) and treatment of arthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases. Also called “rheumatic” diseases, these diseases affect the joints, muscles and bones.

Conditions we treat at Anne Arundel Rheumatology include, but are not limited to:

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Gout
  • Lyme Disease
  • Sjögren’s Syndrome
  • Lupus – (Severe cases may be referred to a university)
  • Bursitis, Tendonitis, and Other Soft Tissue Rheumatic Syndromes

We consult on Fibromyalgia cases and perform yearly follow-ups but will refer treatment to other physicians or pain management clinics.

We take a holistic approach to treatment along with conventional therapies. In addition to prescribing medication and performing ultrasound guided injections in peripheral joints, we encourage acupuncture, exercise, and diet changes, depending on the condition.

Please note:

  • We do not treat osteopenia or osteoporosis.
  • We do not treat pediatric patients.
  • Cancelling an appointment less than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time may result in a $50.00 cancellation fee.
